Sometimes When We Fight
- Harry Smothers
(Tune: "Sometimes When We Touch" by Dan Hill)
You ask if I am ready
I salute you with my sword
"Lay on!" the Marshall calls to us
The crowd does not look bored
I'm just another fighter
Getting lost within The Dream
A feaster, an all-nighter,
At least, that's the way it seems.
And sometimes when we fight
The energy's just right,
And I almost close my eyes in thanks
I want to pound you into mold
Til the marshalls both call, "Hold!"
I want to fight you like a pair of legged tanks
Sometimes I heard the heralds, and they mispronounce my name
Sometimes I see who wears the crown, and I want to wear the same
Some ask me what I'm doing
Hitting someone with a log
I'm wearing funny outfits and
I'm panting like a dog.
Well, at least I'm not a Mongol
With their yurts and fuzzy hats
Or a Saxon, or a Roman
Or a Keltoid, or -- what's that? (angry crowd gathers behind)
And sometimes when we fight,
The energy's just right
And I slightly close my stance and slice.
I want to pound you til you die,
Til the Marshall stops the fight
And then, I'll hold you, and we'll say, "Hey, that was nice!"
